Demolition dust is not only a nuisance but also hazardous to your workers’ health. Silica dust from mortar, concrete, and sandstone is the most common type of demolition dust that can cause serious illness and even lead to death. It is therefore vital to keep the demolition dust in check. Fortunately, brands like BossTek offers different odor control solutions that are customized according to your needs. Here are some of the few ways you can use to keep dust in check at your site.

    Use water

Water is one of the most effective dust control methods at a demolition site. It should be applied a couple of times during the day, depending on the atmospheric conditions of the worksite. Water can be applied using two techniques, i.e., atomized spray or electrostatically charged fog. The electrostatic fog system produces extremely small droplets with an opposite electrical charge from the dust. This results in attraction leading to excellent dust control and is suited for indoor sites. The atomized spray technique also relies on the principle of creating tiny water droplets launched to form a powerful fan at high speed. This facilitates collision with the airborne dust particles and drives them to the ground. This method is highly effective in demotion sites and is one of the few technologies that can control dust by surface wetting and airborne particle capture.

    Isolate your work area

One of the best ways to mitigate the spread of dust is by isolating the work area. Dust containment working kits are available from most companies and can help you control odor and dust. You will need poles and plastic sheets with a zipper to help create an enclosure. This will help protect the rest of the area that is not being demolished from the dust from your worksite.

Seal the air ducts with dust barriers

Sealing your air ducts with HVAC films will help keep the dust from moving through the air ducts to other places on the job site. This is a straightforward process, but if overlooked can cause the spread of the dust to other locations connected to the same air conditioning.

Clean the work site every day

Settling the dust with water is essential, but keeping the work site clean every day is important. Most people prefer using a broom or a cloth for dusting, but professionals recommend using a vacuum cleaner since brooming can blow the dust particles in the air. This ensures that dust particles don’t get in your equipment or affect your employees and business productivity.

    Tillage

Tillage works best for demolition sites that are prone to wind erosions. For the best results with this method, you should have a minimum of15 cm furrows perpendicular to the wind direction. This will help reduce the level of wind erosions hence controlling the dust.

    Transportation of the dusty materials

Another way to control dust at a demolition site is by transferring dusty substances such as fine powders, sand, and cement into closed tanks. If you plan to store the substances, you should keep them in silos to prevent them from escaping.

Maintaining quality work conditions at your worksite is crucial. These methods help keep your site environment clean and safe.
