Accidents do occur, especially if your dog is a puppy or even an older dog. This is especially true for puppies that haven’t been toilet trained (or are currently being trained). However, even the most house-trained pets occasionally have accidents, and cleaning them up can be a real hassle. The good news is that since the stain is protein-based, it is relatively easy to remove. You can swiftly clean up the problem if you know how to properly remove pet poop and urine from the carpet. The procedures to completely remove the stain and odour from your carpets are listed below.
Cleaning pet poop from carpets
Remove the solid matter
Always wear gloves when treating dog poop stains or removing excrement. Pick up dog waste as soon as you can to prevent permanent discolouration. Scoop or pick up the waste with paper towels or baby wipes to remove it. Baby wipes, paper towels, and excrement should all be placed in a garbage bag and thrown away. To remove the excrement, put on rubber gloves. Even if you’ve been wearing gloves, wash your hands thoroughly afterwards.
Spray an enzymatic cleaner
Once the majority of the mess has been cleared away, lightly moisten the surface with an enzymatic cleanser and spray it all over. If the dog poop stains have penetrated the carpet fibres, use a scouring solution with two teaspoons of liquid laundry detergent and distilled water. The stain should be left to soak for at least 10 minutes before being scrubbed with a soft brush. Continue to rinse the area with distilled water, then blot it dry. Use rubbing alcohol
A disinfectant like rubbing alcohol is required to kill bacteria. Cleaning will get rid of the faeces, but it won’t get rid of all the pathogens in dog poop that can make you sick. Douse a clean rag with a small bit of rubbing alcohol. Next, dab the areas of the carpet that were exposed to the faeces. Any bacteria in the area will be killed by the rubbing alcohol, and it should air dry rapidly.
Use a commercial cleaner
Apply a commercial carpet cleaning solution to the stain and let it sit. Make sure to give it at least five minutes to absorb. Use a white towel or absorbent cloth to blot the stain; switch to a new side when the stain starts to transfer to the fabric. You might need several of these towels or paper napkins because blotting the stain with a soiled cloth negates the goal of lifting the carpet stain.
Deodorise the carpet
Pour baking soda over the smelly area of the carpet, let it sit for ten minutes to overnight, and then vacuum the baking soda up to get rid of the smell. Before applying the baking soda, you can also mist the stain with a deodorising mixture made from equal parts warm water and vinegar. You can also use a steam carpet cleaner in addition to any of the methods mentioned above if you have one.
